When you book your stay at Aurland Fjordhytter, you’re close to some of the most iconic and beautiful places in Norway – whether you're planning short outings or full-day excursions.

Here are 10 magical places you can easily experience with Aurland as your base.

1. Stegastein – A Viewpoint You’ll Never Forget

Just ten minutes by car from Aurland Fjordhytter, the Stegastein Viewpoint stretches out from the mountainside, 650 metres above the fjord. The panoramic views of Aurlandsfjorden are breathtaking – perfect for capturing sunrise or sunset photos.

Tip: Go early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid crowds and enjoy the view in peace.

2. Flåm – Trains, Fjords and Local Experiences

Only a 10-minute car ride away lies Flåm, home of the world-famous Flåm Railway, fjord safaris, kayaking, and a range of culinary experiences. Whether you are traveling as a family or a couple, you’ll find something to do here. It’s easy to combine a morning trip here with a relaxed afternoon back in Aurland.

Tip: If you want to ride the Flåm Railway during high season, it’s smart to book your tickets well in advance

3. Aurlandsdalen Valley – Dramatic and Beautiful

The legendary Aurlandsdalen Valley is one of the most popular hiking destinations in Western Norway. You can walk the entire route or just a part of it, and be back at your cabin in the afternoon. The trail offers waterfalls, deep gorges, and authentic Norwegian nature.

Tip: Park your car in Vassbygdi and take the bus to Østerbø. From there, you can hike down the valley at your own pace and drive back to your cabin when you’re finished.

In Gudvangen, you can visit Njardarheimr, a real Viking village with craftsmen, activities, and storytelling. Try traditional Viking food and test your archery skills - perfect for the whole family.

5. Undredal – Goats, Cheese and Tranquillity

Only 25 minutes from Aurland by car, Undredal is a charming fjord village where goats outnumber people. Taste award-winning goat cheese, meet the locals (and their goats), and visit Norway’s smallest stave church, Underdal Stavkyrkje. A peaceful little daytrip for a calm day out.

6. Flåm Zipline – For the Adventurous

The longest zipline in the Nordics is found in Flåm – perfect for a thrilling day of speed and views. Soar over valleys and treetops before returning to a peaceful evening on the terrace in Aurland.
